Prospectus
Dear Parents and Guardians Welcome to our school. We hope that the partnership of home and school can be instrumental in giving your child the experiences, challenges and support that they need to develop into the world of tomorrow. Here at St Teresa of Lisieux we also have the support of the parish, you and your children are welcome to join the community particularly at Sunday Mass celebrations. ADMISSIONS CRITERIA ADMISSIONS POLICY AND ARRANGEMENTS FOR 2008/2009
1. St Teresa of Lisieux is a Catholic Primary School situated in the Archdiocese of Liverpool and is maintained by the Liverpool Local Authority. 2. Applications to St Teresa of Lisieux are part of the co-ordinated admission arrangements operated by the Local Authority. Application should be made both to the Local Authority, using the common preference form and to this school using the school application form, which is available from the office. These forms are available from September 2008. 3. The Governing Body of the school is responsible for determining and administering the policy relating to the admission of pupils to the school. It is guided in that responsibility by: • the requirements of the law 3. The school serves in the first instance baptised Catholic children in public care and those living in the Parish of St Teresa, Norris Green, Liverpool. 4. Having consulted with the Local Authority and others in accordance with the requirements of the law, the Governing Body has published its admissions limit at 60 pupils for the school year commencing September 2009. 5. Applications for a place at the school must be made on the enclosed form and returned to school no later than November 30th 2008. 6. The Governing Body has delegated responsibility for determining admissions to its Admissions Committee, which will consider all applications made in accordance with the criteria set out over the page. 7. Pupils who are admitted to the school will enter the reception classes in September 2009.
Notes As required by the law the Governing Body will not admit more than 30 pupils to any one reception or infant class. Parents may wish to know that the number of applications received last year was 76 and that 76 were admitted.
ADMISSIONS CRITERIA 2009 Where the number of applications exceeds the number of places available the Governing Body will apply the following over-subscription criteria: 1. Baptised Catholic looked after children. 2. Baptised Catholic children living in the Parish of St Teresa’s Norris Green Liverpool. Proof of birth date in the form of a Birth Certificate and proof of Baptism in the form of a Baptismal Certificate is required (unless baptised in the Parish of St Teresa’s). 3. Baptised Catholic Children who have a brother or sister at the school at the time of likely admission. This includes full, half or step-brothers and sisters, and foster brothers and sisters who are living at the same address and are part of the same family unit. 4. Baptised Catholic children from other Catholic Parishes. 5. Looked after children who are other than Catholic. 6. Children who are other than Catholic who have a brother or sister at the school at the time of likely admission. This includes full, half or stepbrothers and sisters, and foster brothers and sisters who are living at the same address and are part of the same family unit. 7. If after considering applications made which meet any of the above criteria or a combination of one or more of the same, there remains a shortfall in the planned admissions number, then the Admissions Committee will consider applications made by parents of children of other Christian denominations. Proof of Baptism in the form of a Baptismal Certificate is required. 8. Children of other faiths. Evidence of affiliation to their particular faith will be required from their Minister of Religion. 9. Children whose parents express a preference for a place at the school. In the event of any over-subscription in the number of applications made under any of the categories above then the admissions committee will offer places first to children living nearest to the school measured by the shortest walking distance using public highways. Note The Governing Body reserve the right to admit children with proven and exceptional medical and social needs where admission to the school might best help satisfy those exceptional needs, providing that such application is submitted with appropriate evidence or reports from a doctor or social worker.

School Uniform
School uniform can be purchased from Brienda’s on Muirhead Avenue East P.E.Kit Please make sure that all items of clothing are marked with your child’s name. Snack Money School Meals If you think you are eligible to receive free school meals you must visit Broadway One Stop Shop and ask for a clothing grant and free school meal form. Parents must provide school with the claim reference number issued by the housing benefit service before being able to receive free school meals. Milk is provided for children in school. After the term in which the children have their fifth birthday the cost is 12p per week, payable half termly. Families who qualify for free school meals also receive free milk. Packed lunches may be brought to school, they should be in a small plastic box clearly marked with your child’s name. We are unable to offer refrigerated storage for lunch boxes. Government regulations state that packed lunches contain no chocolate, sweets or fizzy drinks. School Levy Charging Policy You will be asked to give written consent to allow your child to go on school trips. Inclusion Homework Assessment and Reporting Special Needs Sex Education Parents Attendance Parents are asked to inform the school of the reason for the absence by An unauthorised absence is when a child is absent without reason such as a birthday or shopping trip. It is now firmly established in law that repeated lateness can amount to failure to attend regularly for the purpose of section 199 of the Education Act – please ensure that your child arrives on time. Please be punctual to collect your child at the end of the session.
